Installing Netica on your Mac

We do not yet have a Mac version of Netica, but you can successfully use the Windows version on your Mac by following these steps:

1.  Download the trial version of Crossover Mac, and save it to your Applications folder. If you have trouble finding your Mac hard drive, see Navigating Folders below. Note: if you already have a Windows VM, emulator or environment on your Mac, you can use that in lieu of CrossOver.

2.  In the Applications directory, choose New Folder and name it "Crossover". Do not launch the CrossOver.app yet.

3.  the Netica software package.

4. Once downloaded, drag the 'Netica_Win.exe' file from your Downloads folder to the Crossover folder you created in Step 2 above.

5.  Launch CrossOver by double-clicking its icon in your Applications folder. From the main menu (not the Install box that comes up), choose File > Open... Netica_Win.exe.  The CrossOver Software Installer will launch and install Netica as a bottle.

6. From the main menu in CrossOver, again choose File > Open...  Netica_Win.exe, to launch the WinZip Self Extractor. Unizp the files to: Z:\Applications\Crossover. Close the Extractor upon successful unzip.

7. To run Netica, open CrossOver and use either the main menu with File > Open... Netica32.exe, or the Run Command box and browse to find Netica32.exe.

8. For next steps on running Netica, including license passwords and other tips, see the regular installations page.

Note:  When the files are unzipped from the Netica package, you will see a  Netica.exe and a Netica32.exe. The first is a 64-bit version of Netica, which CrossOver will not run without extra programming steps. Netica32 is the 32-bit version, which will run perfectly with these installation steps.

Also, there are a few minor  bugs with right-clicking and onscreen help. For more information see the Mac FAQ page.

Navigating Folders in Crossover Mac

Due to the nature of running two operating systems on your machine, there are a number of drives and folders to navigate, including (Z:), (Y:), (C:), (Desktop) and (My Computer).

Thus, it can be confusing to navigate through the folders when you first install, save or open Netica files on your Mac.

Here is a breakdown of the various drives and folders under Crossover Mac:

1. Desktop:  This is a Windows reference.  This is NOT your Mac desktop.

There should be a separate folder in that same list of directories called "My Mac Desktop".

You need to install Netica on your Mac through the (Z:) drive.

Choose ‘My Mac Desktop’ if you want to access non-application files on your Mac.

2. My Computer:  If you open ‘My Computer’, you will find 3 drives:

drive_c(C:)

/Users/yourcomputername (Y:)

/(Z:) – this also shows up as an icon of a hard drive with a blank (/)

Drive_c:  If you are used to working on a PC, the usual way to save a file is the C drive.

This is not the case when you are working with Crossover Mac.

The C drive has a folder named "Program Files".  Do not be fooled, these are not the Program Files of your Mac!

(Y:) takes you directly to the main account directory of your Mac, where you will see a folder for your Desktop, Downloads, Documents, etc.

/(Z:) is basically the equivalent to the c:drive in Windows.

The path to your Mac Applications is: Z/Applications/Crossover

Save Netica in the top directory of the Crossover folder.

Remember:  You can save your BN files anywhere on your Mac.

If you are trying to open a BN file from somewhere on your Mac, the path to your Desktop is:

Z/Users/YourUserName/Desktop.  Or from “My Mac Desktop”.
